Amber Large - Care Worker - Walsall

Wednesday, April 18, 2018

This month Dave chatted with Amber Large, a care worker working with our Walsall branch.

Amber has a variety of experience working in residential services that care for people with dementia and challenging behavior. Amber really enjoys working in the care sector and is great working as part of a team as well as of her own initiative. Amber has a passion for providing excellent care and support and we feel that she is a great asset to the care homes that she’s assigned to. Thank you Amber for your continued dedication and superb quality of care that you show to all of the service users that you care for. J

Dave wanted to know why Amber chose to have a career in care and what she thinks about working for Cream Health Care.

What got you into care?

When my father was ill, I gained an interest in the care sector and the whole ethos of care. I witnessed a lot of the work that nurses did when they came to our home to care for my father. This made me want to work in care and pursue a career in nursing. I started to work in care as I wanted hands on experience and gain enough knowledge as I began my road to my nursing degree.

What’s it like to work for Cream?

It’s really good. It’s far better than working in the community. I know where I am, what I’m doing and I feel a lot more organised thanks to the support I get from Dave and Vicky at the Walsall office. Plus I can access mywebroster, and see what shifts I have at any time.

I also enjoy the flexibility around my studies and other commitments. I am able to work when I want and where I want, with no pressure from the branch to take shifts if I don’t wish to.

Do you feel like you are supported by the branch?

Yes definitely, both Dave and Vicky are really easy to talk to and are really helpful and supportive when I need any help and advice. Again a lot better than where I’ve worked previously, and they are again very understanding of my availability and study time.

Do your hours suit you?

Yes as I am able to take the shifts I need around my studies, and the shift patterns are great. It’s good to know that I am on a shift that is a decent length, for example eight or twelve hours.

Do you have any specialities, passions or favourite care homes? Does Cream try to place you at care homes where they know you enjoy?

I really enjoy working at Meadowythe. The team there are great, they make me feel like a member of the team and not “an agency worker.” I enjoy caring for and supporting the service users at the home and making a difference in their lives. It’s a lovely home to work at.

Do you have a passion for care? Do you put dignity and respect at the heart of everything that you do? Do you have six months experience in care work?

If you do, then please get in touch. You can call our Walsall branch on 01922 641989 or apply for a job through our website’s jobs page.
