Maddie has recently attended an ‘Age-friendly City Awareness’ course through the Beth Johnson Foundation.

Tuesday, February 9, 2016

The Beth Johnson Foundation is a national charity dedicated to making a future for all ages. They want everyone to enjoy a great later life, which means as a society, we need to make changes at a strategic and practical level. They conduct cutting edge research, advise policy makers, and initiate pioneering age-friendly programmes.

The Beth Johnson Foundation is currently working with Stoke-on-Trent City Council to achieve the World Health Organisation’s “Age-Friendly City” status for Stoke-on-Trent. Stoke is currently a member of the UK network of Age Friendly Cities.

They have lead the City Council through an action learning style programme as a mechanism to achieve a more holistic approach to thinking about ageing; changing attitudes towards ageing; raising awareness of ageism; more collaborative ways of working and engaging those who may not consider ageing to be their core business. They are now delivering the Commitments Programme for the City Council as part of the city’s action plan, and facilitating the Senior Think Tank, a group of older citizens who will drive the Age friendly Stoke programme forward and act as Citizen Champions. Maddie found the course to be highly informative and thought provoking and has learnt the following:

  •  That we are defined by our age (everything has an age bracket) and this is something that Cream wants to avoid, we welcome all people of all ages
  • We need to bridge the gap between the generations and make Stoke a better city to grow old in.

Cream Health Care are looking into starting up ‘Coffee mornings’ for the younger & older generations to learn from each other. We’ll keep you all updated on how this is going.

Cream Health Care is a name that is synonymous with Health and Social Care recruitment throughout Staffordshire and South Cheshire.
