£600 million over the next two years will boost the capacity of the social care workforce and funding for the social care sector

The government has today unveiled a £600 million package to help with recruitment and retention in social care. The fund will support the social care workforce and boost capacity in social care, in turn supporting the NHS ahead of winter and through into next year.

    The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Social Care has produced a report focusing on the workforce issues in social care, calling for professionalisation of care workers.

    The inquiry, Elevation, Registration & Standardisation: The Professionalisation of Social Care Workers, heard open and confidential evidence over a six-month period, from people with expertise and experience within the Social Care sector; including Care Workers, Employers and Sector Organisations and Charities.

    The report calls for an immediate and urgent national programme to be created for the professionalisation of care workers.
